# OpenFlow overview

OpenFlow is a desktop workspace for agents. Use a direct chat for one task in a conversation; build a workflow when several agents should pass results to one another.

For example, connect a planner to a checklist agent. The planner turns your request into a plan; the checklist agent waits for it, then turns it into actionable items. You can inspect both conversations and reuse the workflow with a different request.

## Start using OpenFlow

1. [Install OpenFlow](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/getting-started/). The packaged macOS app needs no development toolchain.
2. [Connect a provider](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/guides/provider-setup.html): hosted credentials, ChatGPT sign-in, AWS credentials, or a local model server.
3. [Start a direct chat](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/guides/direct-chats.html), or [build your first workflow](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/guides/first-workflow.html) from two prompts you paste into the editor.

[How OpenFlow works](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/concepts/how-openflow-works.html) explains dependencies, handoffs, and your role during a run. [Using the app](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/guides/using-the-app.html) locates the controls. [For new users](https://philbotar.github.io/OpenFlow/guides/for-new-users.html) keeps old links working.
